Richard A. Johnson, 84 of Jump River, died Sunday, May 20, 2018
at the Rusk County Medical Center. He was born on October 15,
1933 to the late Walter and Bernice (Frederick) Johnson. He grew
up in the Jump River area and graduated from Hannibal High. Dick
went on to serve his country in the Army for three years; sitting in
tents in West Germany listening on a radio to coded messages
from the other side of the Iron Curtain, typing them down and
sending them off to military intelligence. He then worked in
Milwaukee for a couple years.

On November 25, 1961 he was united in marriage to Fern Bolstad
at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Yellow River. The couple settled on
a farm south of Jump River and have been there since. He served
many years as trustee and three as chairman at Trinity Lutheran in
Sheldon, and volunteered on the Jump River Fire Department.
Richard was a proud lifelong farmer and recently had the
opportunity to go on an Honor Flight.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fern of Jump River, three
sons, Jeffrey (Judy) Johnson of Marshfield and their
daughter/granddaughter; Rosebud, Bruce (friend Ellen) Johnson of
Hawaii and his daughter/granddaughter; Phoenix and Dave
Johnson of Jump River. Richard is further survived by his brothers,
Ronald (Isabel) Johnson and Harold (Bonnie) Johnson both of Jump
River, his sister, Barbara Peterson of Eleva and many nieces and

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 2,
2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church-Sheldon. Inurnment will follow with
Military rites at Mount Nebo Cemetery at 1PM. Visitation will be from
4-8 PM Friday at the Gilman Funeral Home and Saturday morning
one hour prior to services at the Church in Sheldon.
