Della C. Story, 80 of Jump River, died peacefully Thursday, March
28, 2019 at Aspirus Medford Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on November 12, 1938, the third of twelve children at
the family home in Cleveland township to the late Guy and Beatrice
(Palmer) Mallo. Della grew up in the area and graduated from
Hannibal High School, class of 1956. She married Albert Latz in July
1956 and they had 4 children: Kurt, Kim, Kirby and Kristie. They
lived for a brief time in Waukesha County, Cameron, WI and also
California until Albert’s death in May 1961. On June 8, 1965 Della
married Duane Story and added a daughter Wendy, and son Brett
to the family.
Della was a homemaker and also a substitute postal clerk at the
Hannibal post office. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching,
bowling, crossword puzzles, word search and card games. She was
an avid softball player and passed on the love of the game to her
children. Della enjoyed most her time spent with family – traveling
with her 4 sisters and their mother; her children, but especially time
spent with her grand and great-grandchildren.
She will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Kurt Latz of
Bancroft, Kim (Danny) Trawicki of Gilman, Kirby (Linda Montwill)
Latz of Jump River, Kristie (Davey) Winger of Gilman, Wendy
(Matthew) Dernovsek of Hudson and Brett (Stacey) Story of
Bloomer, 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two more
on the way; her siblings, Arlene (Jerome) Zahn of Jackson, Bryce
(Marian) Mallo of Sheldon, Ray Mallo of Gilman, Arthur (Mary) Mallo
of Rothschild, Sharon Madlon of Dresser, Judith Mallo of North
Prairie, Paulette Johnson of Wauwatosa, Jerry (Jennifer) Mallo of
Waukesha, Brian (Cassie Rembleski) Mallo of Gilman, Loren Mallo
of Greenwood and Arlen Mallo of Lake Hallie. Della is preceded in
death by her parents, her two husbands, and a granddaughter,
Shayla Story.
A funeral mass will be held at 11AM on April 1, 2019 at St. John’s
Catholic Church-Sheldon with Father Lourdu Raju officiating. Burial
will follow in Mount Nebo Cemetery-Jump River. Visitation will be
from 4-8 PM on Sunday at the Gilman Funeral Home and Monday
one hour prior to services at the church.
