Harley E. Swim, 94, of Stanley, passed away peacefully at home on
Sunday, July 28, 2019. He was born on May 30, 1925 in Thorp, to
the late Harley and Stephanie (McNish). He attended Thorp Area
Schools and later served in the United States Marine Corps in
WWII.    He married Helen Kane on February 13, 1947 in
Milwaukee, WI. The couple lived briefly in South Milwaukee but
soon move back to Stanley where they have resided since. The
couple owned and operated the Stanley Bakery for many years.
They then worked for 20 years at the Northern Center until
Harley enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and baking his signature
chocolate chip cookies, which he generously gave as gifts.  He was
a devoted member of the Thorp American Legion and All Saints
Harley is survived by his five children Gregory “Buck” (Judie) Swim
of Chippewa, Nancy (Harold “Sonny”) Wagner of Stanley, Gene
Swim of Pequot Lakes, MN., Jackie Shock of Chippewa and Michael
Swim of Portland, OR., one brother Ellroy Swim of California,  8
grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great
grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen (2010),
his parents, 5 sisters and one brother in infancy, one son in law,
Michael shock and one daughter in law, Georgia Swim.   
A Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 on August 2, 2019, at Holy
Family Catholic Church-Stanley with Father William Felix Officiating.
Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery with a military
graveside rights. Visitation will be from until 9 a.m. until the time of
service at the church. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family
with arrangements.
