Barbara A Hakes, 81, of Chippewa Falls, formerly Stanley, died
Monday, March 13th, 2017 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born
on September 3, 1935 at her family home north of Fairchild to the
late Lester and Evelyn (Olson) Setzer. Her family settled on the
Long farm south of Stanley and Barb graduated from Stanley High
in 1954. On May 28th, 1955 she married her high school
sweetheart: LaVerne Hakes at the Church of the Brethren-Stanley.
Barbara was a CNA at Victory Memorial Hospital before becoming
a homemaker. She also loved to bake, attend to her rose garden
and volunteered to help the elderly. Barb cherished all the time
she spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband LaVerne Hakes of Chippewa Falls,
her children, James (Judy) Hakes of Chippewa Falls, Margie
(Brian) Pete of Valparaiso, Indiana, Julie (Mike) Gerber of Eau
Claire and Roger Hakes of Stanley, her grandchildren, Jacquie
Hakes, Katie Hakes, Tony (Stacia) Pete, Allen (Laura) Hakes,
Adam Hakes, Angela (Matt) Hakes,  Jeni (Steve) Chase and Paula
Gerber, her great grandchildren, Ryann, Dylan, Cailyn and Calvin,
her siblings, Carl “Bud” Setzer, Carol Mayer and John (Cathy)
Setzer all of Eau Claire, Eddy (Shirley) Setzer of Sheboygan and
Doris Dachel of Chippewa Falls and one sister in law, Jeanine
Setzer of Boyd. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, sister
Elsie Gindt and brother, Allen Setzer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, March
18th at the Church of the Brethren-Stanley with Pastor Laurie
Natzke officiating along with Barbara's brother-in-law Rev. Donald
Hakes. Visitation will be from 10AM until time of service at the
church. Inurnment will take place later in the Edson Union
Cemetery. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family with
arrangements.
