Florence Pawlik, 91, of Gilman, passed away Tuesday, March 7,
2017, at Ascension Our Lady of Victory Hospital of Stanley,
peacefully, with family at her side.
Florence was born on January 9, 1926, in Chicago, IL,
daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Nesterick) Filipiak.  The
family moved to the Gilman area when she was a little girl.  She
graduated from Gilman High School and went to work in Chicago
for a short time.  Missing home, she came back and went to work
in a clerical position in Eau Claire.
On June 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Joseph
Pawlik, at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Lublin, WI.  Joe
and Florence worked side by side,  operating and expanding the
family dairy farm south of Gilman, while raising  their three
children; Joseph Jr. “Joey”, Darlene and Dorothy.  Florence was
both a full time housewife and farmer before retirement in 1978.
She enjoyed gardening and her many flowers throughout her
yard.  She was a member of the Learn and Earn Homemaker’s
club, a Sunday school teacher, a knitting leader in the Poplar
Grove 4-H club, and an active member of Holy Assumption
Orthodox Church.  She especially enjoyed attending many of the
grand and great- grandchildren’s school events.  She crocheted
many beautiful afghans for graduations, weddings, and the births
of all 18 great-grandchildren, also giving many away to others.
One of her favorite pastimes was making 8-10 loaves of
homemade bread every week, kneading it by hand, and giving
them away to family and friends.  Her apple pies were the best
and there were always coffee and treats available when
someone stopped by to visit.
Florence was a quiet, gentle, caring woman of strong religious
faith who truly put others first in her life.  She had a warm smile
and loved her “great grands”.  Pictures of family and friends
surrounded her in her home.  She was truly a blessing to all and
will be missed dearly.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Gary) Pawlik Plank
of Stratford and Dorothy (Stanley) Halida of Lublin, seven
grandchildren who will serve as pall bearers and 18 great-
grandchildren:  Jacqueline (Zach) Hennemann and their children
Isaac and Jacob; Carey (Mark) Pawlik Paulson and their children
Dylan and Kole; Jennifer (Jeramie) Duellman and their children
Tychelle, Troy, and Trevin; Jodi (Paul) Weisenbeck and their

children Logan, Lucas, Bradley and Grace; Kristen (David)
Koontz Haider and their daughter Marley; and Karyn (Zack) Nitz
and their children Ella, Alaina, and Samuel.  She is also survived

(Patricia) Filipiak of Hawkins and Richard Filipiak of Chippewa
Falls; sisters Eleanor Almos of Minneapolis, MN and Alice (Herb)
Deuel of Sheldon; sister-in-law Jan Filipiak of Hudson. She is
