Mary Lee Schmitz, 82 of Stanley, died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at
St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. She was born on August 28,
1934 in the town of Worden, Clark County, the daughter of the
late Ervin and Maxine (Carmien) Smith. Mary Lee grew up on the
family farm and graduated from Stanley High in 1952. Mary Lee
worked for a time at the Stanley Corporation.
On November 25th, 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald
Schmitz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boyd. After their
marriage Mary Lee became a “domestic engineer.” Raising her six
children she became an accomplished cook. She also worked
outside the home as a Janitor and later as a cook for Holy Family
Parish.
Mary Lee cherished her grandchildren and their accomplishments
by keeping a scrapbook of their special events in their lives. Her
kitchen was the gathering place for her coffee, conversation,
cards and the best dill pickles: ever.
She is survived by her six children, Debra (Bill) Chwala, Judy
(Dan) Nitz and Betty (Larry) Eslinger all of Stanley, Darlene (Gary)
Miley of Chippewa Falls, Brenda (Mike) Peterson of Cadott and
John (Heather) Schmitz of Eau Claire, 16 grandchildren, 29 great
grandchildren, her brother, James Smith of Stanley, her sister,
June (Ted) Shilts of Stanley and one sister in law, June Smith of
Stanley. Mary Lee is preceded in death by her husband (2015),
her parents and 5 brothers, Jack, Scott, Bruce, Richard and
Jonathan.
A funeral mass will be at 10:30AM on Thursday at Holy Family
Catholic Church-Stanley with Father William Felix officiating. Burial
will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery-Stanley. Visitation will
be from 4-8 PM on Wednesday at the Plombon Funeral Home-
Stanley with a 7:30 parish Vigil service and rosary. Visitation will
continue on Thursday at the funeral home from 9AM until time of
departure to the church.
