Obituary:

Alvin L. Capelle, 87 of Gilman, died on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Colonial Health Service-Colby. He was born on August 16, 1938 at the family home in the Town of Goodrich to the late Clarence and Minnie (Prost) Capelle. After graduating from Medford High School he went on to UW Madison and acquired an Ag. Degree. He married Hedwig “Hedy” Malesheski on May 11th, 1963 and the couple settled in the Hannibal area. He served in the National Guard for 3 years before a Medical Discharge.

Al was the grader/operator for the Town of Goodrich for a number of years during the late ‘50’s. He owned his own milk truck from 1957-1965; hauling milk for the Medford Co-Op Creamery. Al also worked for John & Deloris Olynick from 1967-1973. He then was the Parts man for Chuck Webster at Gilman Tractor. While working for Chuck; Al, John and Waylon became Gilman’s first EMT’s, thus starting the Gilman Ambulance Service. Over the years Al was also an active volunteer fireman. But with truck driving in his blood, he went over the road driving truck covering all of North America from Key West, Florida to the interior of Alaska. Finally retiring in 2008 at the age of 70.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hedwig, his children Scott (Nadine) Capelle, Sherri Capelle, Roxanne Capelle and Paul (Maggie) Capelle, his grandchildren, Eric Ellis, Colton Capelle, Johanna Capelle, Amanda (Jeremy) Glebke, Merree Mravik, Whitnee (Galen) Capelle, Robin (William) Dietrich, Tucker and Remington Capelle, his great grandchildren, Reed, Mary, Savanna, Kathryn, Issabell, Garrett, Sireena, Braxten, Brexlee, Rachel, Kordell and Aimery, and his siblings, Arlene (Arden) Brusten, Irene (Ed) Boldt, Caroline Gebert, Robert (Bonnie) Capelle and Ruth (Richard) Bartelt. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, David, and a brother in law, Jim Gebert.

A visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, December 10th at the Gilman Funeral Home. A private graveside service will take place Thursday in the Hannibal Cemetery.
