Obituary:
Margaret C. Abramowicz, 93, of Stanley, passed away peacefully, under the care of Hope Hospice at the Homeplace of Stanley. She was born at Victory Memorial Hospital on April 18, 1932 to the late Harry and Katherine (Meyer) Heiting. Margaret grew up in the area and graduated from Stanley High School. She married Sylvester Abramowicz on October 21, 1952 at ST. Anne’s Catholic Church-Stanley. They made their life-long home in Stanley on Barber Street where she proudly lived for almost seventy years, before her last few years in an assisted living care home.Margaret first worked at the Thorp Finance Center before taking time off to raise her four children. When they were all in school, she started working at the Ben Franklin in Stanley and then at True Value Hardware until she retired. Margaret was a joyful sweet lady with a little spunk. She enjoyed many years at the cottage on Clear Lake. She loved quiet Sunday afternoon family pontoon rides and endless Saturday trips around Clear Lake spotting for Sylver as the kids were waterskiing. She always served up a great fish fry while proudly having never cleaned a fish in her life; as her rule was “you catch them, you clean them”.
Church was very much a part of Margaret’s life. She was a member of the ST. Annes/Holy Family Catholic Church, and very active in the Ladies Aid and their many volunteer efforts, as well as having been a member of the church choir. Margaret loved crafting, especially knitting, which she learned from her mother. She made all the grandchildren personalized Christmas stockings which were hung on her mantel every year and filled with treats. She was an avid polka dancer, and loved playing cards, putting jigsaw puzzles together, doing word search puzzles, making dolls, and baking (especially her customary blueberry cheesecake for all holidays). She also enjoyed quiet Sunday afternoon car rides which often ended up at a nearby casino, where she played the “penny” slot machines.
Margaret loved going to see her grandchildren’s many school and church events around Wisconsin. She also took advantage of opportunities to travel around the country for family visits and events, including trips to Washington, Hawaii, Alaska (four times), Washington DC, New York, Florida, and even overseas to Japan. She also enjoyed traveling to many National Parks and Historical Cities across the US.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Ron) Borek of Lublin, Sylvester (Gayla) Abramowicz, JR of St. Augustine, FL, Gary (Penney) Abramowicz of Manitowoc and Kenneth (Katrina) Abramowicz of Fairbanks, Alaska, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sylvester, SR, her sister, Katherine Schmitz and her brother Robert Heiting.
Margaret’s family thanks Hope Hospice of Medford and The HomePlace of Stanley for their loving care and kindness which brought Margaret comfort in her final days.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church-Stanley with Father William Felix officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 PM with a 6:30 Parish Rosary and again Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until departure to the church at 10:15 AM.
