Winifred “Winnie” Mae Niznik, 92 of Lublin, beloved mother to 10 children, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 under the loving care of the Aspirus Stanley Hospital doctors and nurses.Surrounded by her family she will leave a void her family cannot fill. Winnie, as she was known by all her life, was born on August 12, 1932 to the late Lucien and Gabriella (Kozinski) Wisniewski. Winnie grew up in a tiny log cabin on Coyote Avenue in the town of Maplehurst along with her 10 siblings and attended Withee area schools. After graduation she worked for a short time in Chicago. She returned to the Withee area and met her love, William “Willie” Niznik. She was united in marriage to William Niznik on August 22, 1950 in Medford. A farm girl at heart, Winnie and Willie settled in the town of Maplehurst where the couple farmed and raised their 10 children.
Winnie was an excellent cook. After farming Winnie owned and operated Left Field Inn Café and Bar in Lublin for many years. Known for her absolutely delicious Friday night fish fry, homemade lunches, and providing meals on wheels for many in the Lublin area.
In her spare time she enjoyed playing bingo at the casino and spending time with all of her children and grandchildren.
Although Winnie was the kind of person who did not like to be celebrated, her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who truly knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Faye Niznik (Richard Cwikla) of Withee, Jane (Michael) Smelser of Tyler, TX, Rita Niznik of Lublin, Bill Niznik (Pam Ewer) of Lublin, Lori Quelle of Withee (Neal Geist), Sue (Tim) Zach of Jump River, Rose Niznik of Cadott, John Niznik of Wisconsin Rapids, one brother, Ben (Cathy) Wisniewski, and brother-in-law Joseph (Joe) Mrozik, along with 25 grandchildren, 37 great- grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willie, her son Tom, her daughter Gail, her sisters, Gerry Hamachek, Dorothy Zakrzewicz, Barbara Wisniewski, Bea Witek, Jean Lorenz, and Lori Mrozik, and brothers, Mitch, Bill and Bob Wisniewski. She is further preceded in death by her son-in- law Randy Quelle, daughter in law Patti Niznik, grandsons Ben, Josh, and Caleb Quelle, and great- grandson Caleb Olson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Gilman Funeral Home with Father Herman Klarr officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until noon, with a luncheon to be served at Celebrations Hall in Gilman after the service. Inurnment will take place in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Cemetery-rural Thorp in the Spring.
