Obituary:

Mary Margaret Holewinski, age 83, of Stanley, WI, passed away peacefully at her home on April 12, 2025, with John, her caring husband of nearly 65 years, by her side.

Born on July 11, 1941, in Stanley, WI, to Leo and Frances Shakal, Mary was a lifelong resident of the community she cherished. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, John Holewinski; her loving children, Donald (Judy) Holewinski, Jim (Jackie) Holewinski, Karen (Mark) Otterson, and Rick (Kim) Holewinski; her nine cherished grandchildren and bonus-grandchildren; and her eight adored great- grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Frances Shakal, and her siblings, Sr. Betty Shakal, Lawrence (Joyce) Shakal, Richard (Joann) Shakal, and Lucy (Edward) Samuels. She is survived by her siblings, Joe (Noreen) Shakal, Steve (Pat) Shakal, Tony (Diane) Shakal, Bill (Ginny) Shakal, Tom (Sharon) Shakal, Carl (Barb) Shakal, Ann (Ray) Soper, and Rita (Gary) Grohn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary’s creativity and talent were evident in her passion for sewing, woodworking, painting, and a variety of other unique crafts. She possessed a remarkable ability to master any new artistic endeavor that captured her interest. She loved to cook and was always eager to test out a new recipe.

A devout member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Stanley, Mary actively participated in the parish community, serving as a lector and Eucharistic minister. She also enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship she found as a member of the local Red Hats Society. Mary was a kind and gentle soul, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Her passing leaves a void in the lives of her family and friends, but her legacy of love, creativity, and faith will be cherished and remembered always.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on April 16 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stanley. Visitation will be from 9:30am until time of service at the Plombon Funeral Home.
