Obituary:
Junella T. Stangl passed peacefully from this life and into the arms of our Lord on January 17, 2025 at the age of 101. She died at the Homeplace of Stanley, in close vicinity of her loving family and friends. June was born on January 29, 1923 Marshfield, Wisconsin to Charles and Rosita Hansen.June was a resident of Stanley for over 73 years; most of those years spent with the love of her life, her husband Jim. The couple was married on December 30, 1944 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church- and remained married until his passing on January 1, 1998. She was the proud mother of 12 children. As a young mother, she was a stay-at-home mom who was very active in her children's undertakings and often the organizer. She was always someone her kids could go to for advice, love, and comfort. She was a surrogate mother to countless neighborhood kids—it was rare for dinner to be served at the Stangl house when a neighborhood guest was not seated, satisfied, and loved.
Supporting her children was not her only endeavor; June excelled as a journalist, Cub Master, Girl Scout Leader, organist at Holy Family, President of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and the Holy Family Catholic Community’s Director of Religious Education for over 50 years. She embraced her call to holiness and never missed an opportunity to serve her community.
June leveraged her passion for reading and vocabulary when she became a member of the Stanley-Boyd School District’s CESA, fondly referred to as the Grandmothers’ Program, where she helped countless children to read, improve as readers, spell, and gain the confidence to be their best.
Wife, mother, counselor, and friend—June’s ability to quietly listen enabled her to befriend each person she met, to dispense thoughtful advice, and to leave everyone with a warm smile and a bit of God’s grace. As a proud mother, she demanded, pushed, and punished her children occasionally—always encouraged them, perpetually believed in them, and loved them unconditionally.
She is survived by her children, Joan (Paul) Blazel and John (Carol) Stangl both of Chippewa Falls, Paul (Nancy) Stangl of Lompoc, CA, Dick (Chris) Stangl of Eau Claire, Sue (Dave) Hall of Stanley, Dave (Denise) Stangl of Cadott, Steve (Renee) Stangl of Anchorage, Alaska and Joe (Jeffri) Stangl, of Italy, a daughter in law, Diane Stangl of Boyd, a son in law, Steve Trim of San Diego, CA was a grandmother to 40 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James John Stangl; her daughters, Jane, Ellen, and Jean; her son Michael and her sister, Elaine Bell.
