Vernon (Butch) D. Kuester

Obituary:

Vernon D. “Butch” Kuester, age 82, of Stanley passed away on Friday, April 25th, 2025 at the Marshfield Medical Center-Marshfield, WI. He was born on July 31, 1942 in Longwood, WI to the late George and Eveline (Woepse) Kuester. Butch grew up on the family farm and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1960. After graduation he joined the Army reserves. He then had various jobs at Briggs and Stratton in Milwaukee and worked for his brother at Brackett Ave Garage in Eau Claire. He later operated a bar in Colby and then worked for Menards at which time he met his wife Kathy.

They were married on April 30, 1982. The couple moved to Gilman then to Stanley where they owned and operated the Otter Lake Bait store for the past 25 years. There you could find Butch always telling a story.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards and for the past 20 years: doing Suduko.

Butch is survived by his wife, Kathy, 4 sons, Kevin Kramer of Wausau, Kyle (Heather) Kramer of Fresno, CA, Brent Kuester of Shoreline, WA and Jon Kuester of Stanley, his sister, Lola Venet of Withee, his brother, Jerry (Nancy) Kuester of Holcombe, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his mother in law, Bev Nelson of Stanley, sisters in law, Jan (Dave) Berge of Thorp, Geneva (Butch) Wundrow of Stanley, Karen (Jerome) Mateski of Sheldon, Marceen (Kevin) Nelson of Gilman, and his brother in law, Lonnie (Carol) Nelson of Colby. Along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, George and Eveline, his Father in law, Joe Nelson and a niece, Susan Kuester.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, May 6th at the Plombon Funeral Home-Stanley. A Celebration of Life and luncheon will take place at 1PM on Wednesday, at the Stanley Community Center in Chapman Park.
